“As Slowly As Possible”

I feel like I can remember a time when the word ‘ASAP’ wasn’t a word yet, if you saw it on a page you would pronounce it by it’s letters, and in fact it was more commonly spelt A.S.A.P.

Also, it didn’t mean ‘hurry up this needs to be now’ it had a more gentle feeling of ‘at your earliest connivence’.

When did ASAP become ‘sooner than the natural progression of time, because that is too slow’?

Further than that, I wrote this piece asking myself, ‘what if I actually tried to slow down?’ If I tried to take a little longer and move a little slower. What problem might actually solve itself? What space might be made for healing? And what fun could be had along the way?

So that’s the story of this aphorism.

I like to eliminate words from my vocabulary, and one of these words is this (fake) word. If I feel like using it, maybe I need to look at why I am trying to rush something or worse, someone.
